My Melanoma Story

When SunSense asked me to write an article about my experience with malignant melanoma I hesitated a bit at first.

I was nervous about sharing my story on a large website rather than on my own blog, but to be honest it didn't take too long before I gave myself a stern talking to and came to the conclusion that if my story could help encourage others to be more sun safe and thus prevent them from developing skin cancer, then I should do it!

I admire SunSense as a company and the great job they do in educating the community on the importance of protecting themselves and their families against sun damage. I also genuinely love and use SunSense sunscreens on myself and my family on a regular basis, not just when they are gifted to me. It was these two additional factors that helped make the decision to share my story on the SunSense website even easier.

SunSense is a trusted Australian brand of sunscreen with so many different options available to suit every body. Whether you are looking for a spray, a roll on, a cream, a lotion or a gel, whether you want a sunscreen specifically for sensitive skin or specifically for your face, SunSense has one to meet your needs.

SunSense even have an anti-ageing matte finish SPF 50+ sunscreen with an invisible tint which is one of my favourites!

All SunSense sunscreens are fragrance free, dermatologically tested and suitable for sensitive skin. they also all contain Vitamin B3, an ingredient that is showing impressive benefits to the skin.

All SunSense sunscreens meet my needs for a trusted, effective, easily absorbed, broad spectrum sunscreen with a very high SPF.

SunSense Range of Sunscreen Products

As a result of the above, rather than being nervous anymore, I'm actually excited about being featured on the SunSense website and I sincerely hope that it encourages everyone reading the article to be more sun aware and sun safe than I used to be. Learn from my childhood mistakes!

So if you are interested in reading my melanoma story and finding out a bit more about my childhood and what growing up in the 70's and 80's was like click HERE to go to the SunSense website where my story is featured.

SunSense sunscreens are available exclusively in pharmacies and Priceline stores
Australia wide.

7 Kris Kringle Beauty Gift Ideas With Christmas Puns Included

Every year I participate in a number of Kris Kringle Christmas gift swaps.

Being a beauty blogger I love giving little gifts of beauty. In keeping with the Kris Kringle lighthearted and fun approach I always add a Christmas pun related to the gift I'm giving.

These little beauty gifts with their included Christmas puns are all in the $25 or less price range with the majority under $15 and some even under $5!

I make my own Christmas gift tags but you can buy them if you're short of time or not feeling crafty. I print the puns onto white sticker paper making them super easy to stick on the tags.

These beauty gifts also make perfect end of year presents for teachers, coaches, neighbours, babysitters and friends.

In addition, I've used these gifts as Christmas table setting favours when I've hosted Christmas lunch at my house and they are fun stocking stuffers too!

I know some people find Kris Kringles and Secret Santa Swaps stressful, not knowing what to give, so let me remove your stress with my top 7 Kris Kringle beauty gift suggestions, fun Christmas puns included! There are gifts suitable for males in this list too.

1. Merry Kiss-Mas!

Merry Kiss-Mas! Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Finish Lipsticks

Merry Kiss-Mas! Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Finish Lipsticks

This is one of my favourite Kris Kringle beauty gifts to give. What woman doesn't love receiving a new lipstick!

I usually try to choose suitably festive looking red cased lipsticks such as these Rimmel London Kate Moss Matte Finish lipsticks.

Merry Kiss-Mas! Rimmel Provocalips 16 Hour Lipstick

The Rimmel Provocalips 16 Hour Lipsticks also make stunning looking Kris Kringle gifts.

Plus the long lasting nature of the Provocalips lipsticks is perfect for the recipient to wear during the December / January party season.

2. Wishing You A Mani Christmas!

Wishing You a Mani Christmas! Jamberry Nail Wraps

Jamberry nail wraps are a fun and much appreciated Kris Kringle beauty gift. I have used some of the Mirror and Metallic Jamberry nail wraps as gifts this year. Once again these are perfect for the recipient to wear to New Year's Eve parties or other special occasions.

If your Kris Kringle exchange is taking place before Christmas Day you could also gift one of the fun Christmas range of Jamberry nail wrap designs.

The cute Disney themed nail wraps are also a popular gift among my daughter's teenage friends this year. There are nail wraps to suit every age group!

3. Santa-Tizer

Santa-Tizer - Thank You hand Sanitizer

This Kris Kringle gift of hand sanitizer works equally well for males as well as females. It is a good little gift to give to people who may be planning some holiday travel. On holidays we don't always have convenient access to running water to wash our hands before eating, making antibactierial hand sanitizer Santa-tizer most useful!

I like giving the Thank You brand of hand sanitizer because this brand has a feel good charitable factor too! Profits help provide access to hygiene and sanitation programs to people in need. It's a small bottle with big impact!

4. For Your Mistle Toes

For Your Mistle Toes

I've used the well loved Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polishes for these Kris Kringle gifts.

They have a huge and gorgeous colour selection, contain a complete manicure in the one bottle and are well priced!

5. You're The Balm!

You're The Balm! Blistex Melon Happy Lips

You're The Balm! Sun Bum Lip Balm in Mango.

This is another Kris Kringle gift that works well for both males and females.

Depending on which gender you are gifting the lip balm to as to which lip balm is best to give.

The above are two of my current favourite lip balms. The new Blistex Melon Happy Lips lip balm has an amazing fruity scent. There is also a Christmas-y looking red Blistex Strawberry Happy Lips that would be perfect for festive looking Kris Kringle giving.

Click HERE to buy Blistex lip balms.

The Sun Bum Mango lip balm is cute with it's monkey, or is it an ape, mascot on the front. This lip balm is more gender neutral in my opinion than a lot of other lip balms in the market, making it perfect as a Kris Kringle gift for males too. I know my husband would be happy to pull this lip balm out of his pocket to use at the beach in front of his mates.

6. Wishing You A Christmas Full of Joy, Peace & Hope Soap!

Aishing You A Christmas Full of Joy, Peace & Hope Soap!

Who doesn't love a divinely scented soap! Scented soaps make another great little Kris Kringle beauty gift.

7. Sparkle All The Way!

Sparkle All The Way! OPI Nail Polish

Finally what's Christmas without a little bit of sparkle! This is another favourite Kris Kringle gift of mine to give, sparkly silver nail polish. OPI always has a stunning metallic or sparkly silver in their collection.

Lancome Cushion Blush Subtil Review

Lancome is such an iconic luxury beauty brand. Created over 80 years ago in 1935 it has continuously innovated and adapted its products over the years to meet women's real needs.

In 2015 Lancome was the first Western beauty brand to create a cushion foundation. It's latest cushion foundation is the Teint Idole Ultra Cushion.

Since then Lancome has also developed another innovative product, the Cushion Blush Subtil.

I was lucky enough to receive one of these recently released Lancome Cushion Blush Subtils in the shade Sparkling Framboise to trial.

This blush comes in a minimalistic glossy black plastic case with the Lancome signature rose on the lid.

Lancome Cushion Blush Subtil

The inside of the lid conveniently contains a mirror enabling easy application of this blush when out and about and on the go.

The sponge applicator is stored in this compartment opposite the mirror. You then flip open the base of this section to reveal the cushion blush itself. The cushion blush is quite small but it packs a powerful vibrant effect.

Lancome Cushion Blush Subtil in Sparkling Framboise

You can vary the intensity of the blush by the amount of pressure you apply to the cushion with the sponge.

For a sheer tint of colour you just tap the cushion gently with the sponge. A little of this fluid blush goes a long way.

For a more intense colour you apply a medium amount of pressure to the cushion to release a bit more of the fluid blush.

You can use either the sponge applicator provided with the blush or your fingers to apply.

I found this blush to result in a lovely fresh dewy and youthful looking finish.

It's an impressive, innovative and fun product to use.

The Lancome Cushion Blush Subtil retails for $60. It comes in seven rosy or orange variations.

It is available at all Lancome counters nationally in David Jones and Myer stores and other selected retailers. It is also available for purchase online via the website.

My UV Patch - La Roche-Posay - Measuring Your Daily UV Exposure

Do you know how much UV exposure your skin is getting?

Do you know how much UV exposure is the suggested daily limit?

Do you know when you need to top up your sunscreen?

If you answered "no" to any of the above questions then read on. You will probably be as excited about this newly launched technological innovation, the My UV Patch, as I am!

La Roche-Posay's My UV Patch & Anthelios Sunscreens

Having suffered from a malignant melanoma which required surgery to remove not only the melanoma, but also the surrounding tissue, making my leg look as though it has had a shark bite taken out of it, I am now very careful with ensuring I apply sunscreen on a daily basis.

But even so, prior to using My UV Patch, developed in L'Oreal's Technology Incubator in the US under scientist Guive Balooch, I could not say that I was either aware of how much UV exposure my skin was actually getting nor how much the suggested daily limit was.

Hence why I am so excited about La Roche-Posay's My UV Patch!

My UV Patch is the most exciting, educative and practical beauty industry technological innovation I have seen!

It looks like cute blue heart sticker but it is so much more scientific, high tech and useful than that!

La Roche Posay's My UV Patch

It is the first flexible, ultra-thin and connectable UV sensor designed to measure sun exposure.

It is a wearable electronic device, the size of a fifty cent coin and just half the thickness of an average strand of hair! It is designed to be worn for up to five days.

Yes, you can sleep, exercise, swim and shower with this patch on, while applying your sun protection over it enabling you to measure your UV exposure in real time.

I found the patch easy and comfortable to wear. It moved and wrinkled with my skin and didn't feel like I was even wearing it!

Wearing the My UV Patch

The patch works through the use of photosensitive dyes, which change colour when exposed to UV radiation, and is designed to be used in conjunction with the My UV Patch app which you can download free onto your phone.

My UV Patch Phone App

The app informs you of the weather and UV conditions in your location, how your behaviour is rated sun safe-wise, how much UV exposure you have had and how much of your 'daily sunstock' is remaining.

The app takes into account your hair and eye colour, UV sensitivity, GPS location and ozone concentration, which is a significant factor especially for Australian users. How clever is that!

The app is a great reminder to reapply your sun screen and the La Roche-Posay Anthelios range of sunscreens offer the highest level of UVA/UVB sun protection.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ Ultra Light Sunscreen

My UV Patch is a great way to educate yourself about your UV exposure. It is not something you need to wear forever. After using a patch for 5 days you will know your typical UV exposure levels and the sun safe behaviour required to protect yourself.

My UV Patch is such an exciting innovation with the ability to educate us and prevent more of us from suffering with skin cancer.

I was lucky in that my malignant melanoma was detected and treated early. A lot of others have not been so lucky. 12000 Australians die from melanoma every year!

Based on my personal experiences I am a passionate advocate of sun safety and I want to encourage everyone to be sun safe. Be vigilant! Be aware of the amount of UV exposure you are receiving! Apply sunscreen as required and please stay sun safe!

My UV Patch is available free from participating dermatologists to assist educate their patients.

For a limited time it is also available free with the purchase of La Roche-Posay Anthelios sunscreen products from more than 800 pharmacies Australia-wide and also online. This is while stocks last so I encourage you to hurry so you don't miss out.

Whether you are exposed to UV when you walk the dog, commute to work, on weekends outdoors with friends, in the playground with your kids or on the job I encourage you all to get your hands on one of these My UV Patches and actively educate yourself on the level of your daily UV exposure. Arming yourself with this personalised information can significantly help you take steps to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.

Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world! This isn't a world record we want! Let's all actively increase our knowledge, take action and decrease the incidence of skin cancer in Australia!
